Mindfulness in the Clinic Waiting Room May Decrease Pain: Results from Three Pilot Randomized Controlled Trials (2024)

The purpose of this study was to determine if a brief mindfulness session (i.e., 5 minutes) can improve pain intensity, pain unpleasantness, depression symptoms, and anxiety symptoms before or after the office visit. Mindfulness reduced patient intensity and anxiety symptoms to a greater extent than pain education.
